My father took my award in his hands and hugged me tightly…., says Amit Soni
After the wonderful response to the first part of this super exclusive interview with the famous show Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey’s Amit Soni, here’s presenting the much awaited second part of the same. Without much ado, over to you, Amit…
Amit, if you had the opportunity to work with any actor or director in the future, who would it be and why?
There are many actors, but obviously, since childhood, I have had a dream and two favorite actors, one is Bachchan Sir, and the other is Govinda Ji. If I ever get even a small role to share the screen with either of them, It would be a dream come true, and I would definitely like to work with him if I get a chance in the future. I have grown up watching Govinda Ji and Bachchan Ji, they were my icons. Govinda Ji was the reason I entered the industry.
Carry on…
I used to be so impressed by him, he is a versatile man who can do anything. Even Bachchan Ji’s aura on screen was unmatched, what can anyone say about him? So, these two are my icons. If I get a chance in the future, I would love to share the screen with them. As for the director, I admire Rajkumar Hiraniji a lot. He includes a meaningful message in all his films. I don’t know what it is, but there’s something special about him.
You have even worked with stellar filmmaker like Nitesh Tiwari film, right?
Yes…I did a small cameo in his film. I immensely enjoy working with Nitesh Tiwariji. I say so because he is a very clear and precise filmmaker. I have seen his films, and if given a chance, I would love to work with Raju Sir and Niteshji again.
In an industry full of competition, what do you think sets you apart from others?
Yes, there is competition, but I am the kind of person who does not interfere in anyone’s work. I have a habit of doing things my way. I like to work. If you expect something from me, for example, if a scene comes up and I don’t like it, I try to adjust it to my liking. It’s not that I want the scene to turn out exactly the way I want it to, I don’t like that approach.
Amid all this, do you ask questions in case of any doubts?
Of course, I do definitely ask questions. Why? When? How? Why will the character do this? I will ask 50 questions because it’s my habit. I don’t insist on doing things my way, but I always try to understand why a character behaves a certain way. It’s important for me that the character and the story get justice. This is just how I work.
What’s your take on comparison? Do you compare yourself with anyone?
I won’t compare myself to others, but I believe my focus is slightly better. I listen. The director’s word is final, and I make sure to listen to what the director tells me. I think that is my USP, and this is what sets me apart from others.
You have even won an award for your work in Wagle Ki Duniya. What was the immediate feeling?
Yes! I got the award for Best Supporting Role in Wagle Ki Duniya. This is my first award in the television industry. I didn’t expect to win because there was so much competition. There were so many talented artists of different levels, and when my name was called, I was completely blank.
I didn’t even hear it at first. Like they say, “If you bite, there is no blood”, I was in shock. My wife, who was sitting next to me, told me to go to the stage. I was like, “Yes, yes, yes,” but it took me a moment to process it.
Is ‘feeling elated’ the word here?
(smiles). Bang on! Obviously, it was! Receiving such a big award on such a grand platform made me feel like I must have done something right to deserve this. It truly feels amazing, and I am really blessed to be working with such a wonderful team. The team is very important, it’s a crucial factor in any project’s success. Touch wood, our team is incredible, and not everyone is fortunate enough to work with such a great group of people.
So, I feel truly blessed, and I owe this award to them. I am actually speechless and extremely grateful that they considered me worthy of this honor. It feels really good.
After you got the award, you touched your dad’s feet right…?
Yes. I did! I still remember …. When I got this award and was coming back, I remember the first thing I did was go and touch my dad’s feet. For the first time, he hugged me like that and asked to take a photo with me. It was the first time in my life he had ever said that to me, and my eyes almost welled up with tears.
Your father’s reaction when you bagged the award? Such a moment of pride it must have been…
Truly…My dad had put an award poster in the back of the corridor, and there, he asked someone to take a photo of us. He took the award in his hands and hugged me. I still have that photo with me. It is one of the purest memories of my life. What could be a bigger moment than this? It feels truly special and fills me with immense pride and joy.
