Every character I’ve played has been special, says Kaveri Priyam | EXCLUSIVE
The very mention of Kaveri Priyam refreshes our memories with her stellar shows like Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke, Ziddi Dil Maane Na, Dil Diyaan Gallaan amongst many others. The characters which she had played in these shows are so very powerful that it resonates even till date.
Desimartini caught up with the stunning Kaveri Priyam as she takes us through her wonderful journey in the world of showbiz!
To start with Kaveri, you’ve portrayed a variety of roles in your career so far. Which character has been the most challenging and why?
Every character I’ve played has been special, but if I had to pick one, it would be Monami from Ziddi Dil Maane Na. She had so many layers—strong yet vulnerable, determined yet emotional. The physical training for the role was intense, and portraying her transformation was both challenging and rewarding.
Your fans loved your performance in Ziddi Dil Maane Na. How do you approach preparing for such diverse roles?
I believe in completely immersing myself in the character. I spend time understanding their background, their emotions, and what drives them. Physical preparation is also crucial—I also observe real-life people to add authenticity to my performance.
Is there a particular genre or role you haven’t explored yet but would love to take on in the future?
I would love to explore a strong, grey-shaded character in a psychological thriller or a historical drama. Playing a complex role that challenges my acting abilities excites me. A powerful, period-era queen or a detective in a suspense thriller would be amazing!
What is one lesson you’ve learned in the entertainment industry that has helped shape you as an artist?
Patience and perseverance. This industry can be unpredictable, but staying consistent, believing in oneself, and continuously working on your craft is key. Every project, whether big or small, teaches you something valuable.
Who are some directors or actors you dream of collaborating with, and why?
I would love to work with directors like Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his grand storytelling, Imtiaz Ali for his deep, emotional characters, and Anurag Kashyap for his raw, intense narratives. Among actors, working alongside Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui would be a dream because they bring so much depth and energy to their performances.
How do you handle the pressures of the industry, especially with the rise of social media scrutiny?
I focus on my work and try not to let external noise affect me. Social media is great for connecting with fans, but I remind myself that not everyone’s opinion defines me. I stay grounded by spending time with family, meditating, and engaging in activities that bring me joy.
What kind of stories or narratives do you want to be a part of in the coming years? Any particular themes that resonate with you?
I am drawn to stories with strong female leads, narratives that inspire, and characters that leave an impact. Women-centric films, socially relevant themes, and high-intensity thrillers excite me. I would also love to do a romantic film with a fresh, unconventional storyline.
